Troop 1 Richmond Scouts have regular opportunities to participate in all sorts of outings including hiking, backpacking, mountain climbing, canoeing, kayaking, cycling, snowsports, camporees, weekend camping, high adventure, and summer camp. These events provide opportunities for Scouts who want to learn and practice new skills that can lead to advancing in rank all the way to Eagle Scout.
In addition, merit badges offer a chance to learn about science, sports, citizenship, trades, business, and future careers. There are more than 135 merit badges. Any Scout may earn any of these at any time
Scouts are reminded to "Be Prepared", so first aid and emergency preparedness are stressed. Cooking is also a skill that all scouts are encouraged to practice since everyone should know how to safely plan, prepare, and cook a meal.
Community Service is an important part of the scouting program and Troop 1 Richmond is involved in regular service projects, nearly one each month. These include food drives, beach cleanup, placing flags or wreaths at the Veteran's Cemetery, service to veterans, Earth Day cleanups, and more.
Troop 1 Richmond offers many opportunities for Scouts to have fun outdoors, make new friends, serve their community, and grow into a well-prepared young man.
